My Quit Route

Ad IQ recently had the pleasure of working with Somerset Council on their Smoke Free Somerset campaign. The aim of the campaign is to help people quit smoking, and we were tasked with creating a 2D animation that would be engaging and informative.

We decided to mix motion graphics with traditional hand drawn 12 frames per second animation. This would allow for a unique and visually appealing animation that would capture the viewer’s attention.

We started by creating a storyboard for the animation. This helped plan the overall look and feel of the animation, as well as the key moments that we wanted to capture. Once we had a storyboard in place, we began working on the motion graphics, using a variety of software programs to create the motion graphics, including Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro.

Work then began the hand drawn animation, using a traditional animation technique called “cel animation” to create the frames. Cel animation is a process of drawing each frame of animation on a piece of acetate, although in our case, this was done digitally in Adobe Photoshop. Once all of the frames are drawn, they are then animated and composited in Adobe After Effects.

Everyone was really happy with the way that the animation turned out. The mix of motion graphics and traditional animation really helped to create a unique and visually appealing animation. And we hope the animation will help people to quit smoking and improve their health.
